My chairs
Sara’s passion as a youngster was making furniture. As a teenager she started designing and then making chairs. Friends began to ask where these were from and, on learning that she’d made them herself, commissioned her to do the same for them. A local Spanish restaurant got involved – and yes, she made tables and chairs for their customers too.
Having completed her Interior Design degree in IADE in 2002, Sara’s sketches remained heavily influenced by the Bauhaus. Her work was very architectural and used mainly timber. She started thinking about how to broaden the scope of her chair designs, considering different materials and shapes. The idea of a zigzag chair took root. She started working in acrylic and mesh. Meanwhile in 2012, Sara won a design price organised by iMakr & 100% Design London for her 3D printed Dandelion chair design, meaning that her chair was printed in 3D and exhibited in 100% Design London 2012. Sara’s clients often ask her to design chairs specifically for their house and she’s delighted that her passion continues to be part of her practice.
